Mitochondrial dysfunction is the problem, and Y100 is the solution

In a breakthrough paper1 in top-ranking peer-reviewed journal Cell Death & Disease (part of the Nature family of journals), Prof. K. Singh explains how “low energy in skin cells” (aka low mitochondrial activity) reduces collagen production, a direct contributor to skin wrinkles2.  Low mitochondrial activity also triggers an inflammatory/stress response, also contributing to loss of tone and texture.  Importantly, restoration of mitochondrial activity to normal levels reversed both of these mechanisms.  Prof. Singh and partners started a company (YuvaBio) and set about to determine what compounds increased mitochondrial activity the most.  Using AI and a proprietary assay, they screened 14,000+ compounds and the best-of-the-best was Y100.

Prof. Singh and his team were enthused about the discovery of Y100 being a potent weapon against the aging process.  But, Y100 had a short duration-of-effect.  Making matters worse, it did not penetrate the skin well.  That’s when they teamed up with the makers of the Z-pod®, the technology borne out of the lab of Joel Friedman MD PhD in tandem with Andrew Draganski PhD and Adam Friedman MD (now Head of Dermatology at GWU). This is the first and only sustained-release system for topicals.

REVERSES SKIN AGING

Y100-loaded Z-pods reverse skin’s biological age

In a study involving 21 female Subjects, each of whom applied Y100-loaded Z-pods on her face for 8 weeks, the women experienced an average 3.0-year reduction in skin age as determined by a new AI app.  Only one of the Subjects experienced an increase in skin age per the app.  Each Subject was allowed to continue her skin regime up until Day 1 of the study, meaning that the Y100-loaded Z-pods reduced the skin age by 3.0 years more than the previously used anti-aging regimen.

RESTORES MITOCHONDRIAL FUNCTION

Y100 shows some improvement at the 12- & 24-hour timepoints; while Y100-loaded Z-pods show unheard-of improvements at both the 12- & 24-hour timepoints

These in vitro studies (i.e., lab-based studies…not involving humans) referenced to the left are proprietary studies conducted by YuvaBio and involve certain types of skin cells. In one set of studies, Y100 was demonstrated to be far better at restoring mitochondrial function than retinol, retinoic acid, and Neutrogena’s Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol®.

Safety

NON-IRRITATING TO SENSITIVE SKIN

Two separate studies show Z-pods are non-irritating; and an additional study shows Y100 is non-irritating

Each of these studies referenced to the left is a Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT), a standard test to assess sensitivity effects. Each study involved over 50 healthy volunteers that received daily occlusive patch applications on a specified part of their skin. Each volunteer received 11 scores over a 3-week period. The scores are from 0 to 4, with 0 being no reaction; a 1 being slight erythema (redness)…up to a score of 4, reflecting erythema, skin thickening, and bullae.  Amazingly, with almost 2,000 scores given, 100% of the scores were 0.

The HRIPT study described above enables the claims, “dermatologist tested” and “allergy tested.”

NON-COMEDOGENIC

Z-pods are clearly non-comedogenic, meaning they do not block pores

A four-week single-blind clinical study with 33 participants (31 of whom completed the study) assessed the comedogenic potential of Z-pods by means of repeated occlusive cutaneous patch applications and follicular biopsy procedure. Using a scoring scale of 0 to 3, with 0 being completely non-comedogenic, the Z-pod-based material is tested against a no-treatment arm and a positive-control arm (lanolin).  The mean score of Z-pods was 0.0; the no-treatment arm also had a mean score of 0.0; and the lanolin had a mean score of 2.5. As such, Z-pods have been clinically demonstrated to be considered safe and non-comedogenic.
